Optimizing Lung Protection in the NICU: What Does the Future Hold?

Ventilating our tiniest patients can be difficult and there are many variables to consider as we seek to support the respiratory status of neonatal patients. This presentation will outline mechanisms of lung injury and discuss evidence-based approaches for noninvasive ventilation, surfactant delivery techniques, and lung protective strategies for conventional and high-frequency ventilation.

Pediatric ARDS: Do We Have Consensus?

Providing mechanical ventilation to the pediatric patient with ARDS can be vastly different than ventilating an adult patient with ARDS. Is there a best practice or consensus for mechanical ventilation modalities and strategies for this population? This presentation will discuss the pathophysiologic characteristics of pediatric ARDS and the evidence supporting various mechanical ventilation strategies.
